Govt incurred Rs 400-crore loss due to yesterday's bandh: FKCCI

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: In the recent shutdown of Karnataka regarding the escalating Cauvery issues, the state suffered an estimated Rs 400 crore loss in taxes, said Ramesh Chandra Lahoti, president of the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI).

The Karnataka bandh observed on Friday due to the Cauvery water dispute has reportedly led to a loss of Rs 400 crore in terms of taxes(GST) for both Karnataka and the Central government.

The Bengaluru bandh held on 26th Sep alone has reportedly resulted in a loss of around Rs 250 crore across various sectors.

The Pro-Kannada group's demand to stop the release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu has resulted in three bandhs in the past 20 days forcing a temporary shutdown of public transportation, schools, shops, and multiple business establishments.

As per data, more than 10,000 hotels across Karnataka are said to have suffered a cumulative loss of Rs 150- 160 crore, Also the Excise industry took a hit of Rs 180- 200 crore loss for the bandhs.
