AC buses to feed Metro between KR Puram, Silk Board stations
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: The Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) is set to operate 16 AC feeder buses between KR Puram Metro Station and Central Silk Board Junction once Namma Metro’s entire Purple Line from Challaghatta to Kadugodi (Whitefield) becomes operational.
According to the BMTC, the buses will operate at a frequency of eight minutes during non-peak hours and five minutes during peak hours.
It is expected that the move will benefit lakhs of tech employees working on the 17 km IT corridor of Outer Ring Road (ORR). Notably, feeder services are provided in addition to already functional city buses.
The BMTC is currently operating 2,000 trips on the ORR. Purple line fully functional early in October Executive director of the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) recently said the entire Purple Line of 43 km will be operational in a few days.
The BMRCL has already received safety authorisation to begin operations on the 2 km stretch from KR Pura to Byappanahalli. Meanwhile, a safety check for the KengeriChallaghatta route was conducted on Friday.
The two corridors will likely be inaugurated together in early October. As per the official, the ridership will jump to 7 lakh from 6.3 lakh once the whole Purple Line becomes operational. Namma Metro will also provide parking space for bicycles at KR Pura Station and charge Rs 10 per day.
