Customs officials seize 3 kg gold concealed by passengers

Bengaluru: The Customs officials at Bengaluru Airport arrested four persons and recovered 3 Kg gold worth Rs 1.77 crore from their possession.

According to a senior Customs official, the passengers arrived in Bengaluru from Dubai and Colombo on separate flights on September 29. The gold was concealed in the rectum and kneecaps of the passengers.

"Total 3 kilograms of gold which were concealed in rectum/kneecaps worth Rs 1.77 crore were seized from them," the official said.

On their official X, formerly Twitter, handle, the Customs officials shared, "2pax arriving from Colombo via Srilankan Airline UL 171 to Bengaluru, carrying gold powder (74.54gm) hidden inside his pants and the other concealing egg-shaped gold paste (155.30gm) in the rectum were intercepted. Gold was recovered and seized," in a post.

"The recovered gold was confiscated under the provisions of Section 110 of the Customs Act, and the passengers were subsequently arrested under Section 104 of the Customs Act," officials stated.

Further investigation into the matter is underway
