
A cure for stomach pain after spicy food
Q: I am facing severe stomach pain, acidity and burps after having food. I feel better whenever my stomach is empty but there is always a bitter taste in my mouth. I did some lab tests and found bacterial infection in my stomach. I remain fine whenever I am on liquid diet but whenever I eat dal or little spicy or fried stuff my stomach pain starts again.
A: Mix half spoon Dadimashtaka choornam and half spoon Ashtachoornam in warm ghee and take twice a day before food. Take pomegranate fruit, dry the pod (rind) grind it, put half of it into one glass of diluted buttermilk, boil it for a few minutes by adding turmeric, season with ghee and jeera and consume. You can also take dry powder of Amalaki choorna, add a bit of rock salt and one pinch of roasted dried and powdered cumin seed after food twice a day.
Q: I have heard about `Swarnaprasham`. What is it and can it be given to my 3-month-old infant?
A: Swarnaprasham is a traditional way of improving newborn`s general immunity. For this, one has to use pure gold without any copper in it. Normally a golden thread is made with pure fold and is penetrated into an Acorus calamus (Vayambu) stick and on a grinding stone a few drops honey is spread and the stick is ground 5- 10 times. The resultant paste is applied on the tongue of new born for 41 days. Gold is an important element in brain function. Scriptures mention that it helps in memory also. Swar naprasham also helps in slowing down ageing process. A good physician should be consulted because dosage, duration and time of Swarna intake is very important for its action.
Q: Could you please let me know about possible side effects of shilajit? Is this helpful in stress management?
A: Shilajit is a mineral product that comes out of certain kind of rock which has got split by continuous sunrays. It oozes out and comes out in a semi-liquid form like latex from a rubber tree. Training is needed for its collection from the rock. This is used in Bhasma form. If taken in small doses, there will not be side effects. It is used in chest congestion, fibrosis of lungs like ILD. It is also used in sinus. Shilajit should be used only under the supervision of an Ayurveda physician.
