Cab driver booked for sending obscene photos to woman after she cancelled the ride

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: In a shocking incident, an appbased private cab driver spammed lewd photos and videos to a woman on her WhatsApp for cancelling the ride which she had booked to return to her home in Electronic City.

Following a complaint filed by the woman, the police arrested the accused identified as Dinesh, who was working for Ola services. The woman in her complaint had alleged that she had booked a ride after her daughter refuse to walk home from her school.

"A few minutes later, my baby started crying and on noticing an autorickshaw approaching, I took a ride back home and cancelled the cab for which I was even charged Rs 60 as a cancellation fee," said the mother of a six-year-old infant.

However, when we found that the ride has been cancelled, the disappointed cab driver repeatedly called the woman, demanding her to take the cab as he had driven 5 km to reach the pickup location. The victim reportedly apologised to him.

"I had asked the cab driver to hurry as my baby was crying. I waited for another two minutes but couldn't find the cab on the route, so I took an autorickshaw," she said.

Despite her repeated apologies, the driver continued demanding the fare for the ride which she had not taken. As she ignored the calls, the accused sent lewd pictures and videos to her WhatsApp.

The victim was shocked after seeing the pictures and shared her ordeal with another woman, a neighbour residing in the same apartment. The neighbour then asked her to file a complaint with the police.

What Uber & Ola say

Uber and Ola are the main cab aggregators operating in India. Recently, Uber India announced that the users can cancel rides for free even after the driver has arrived at their location if they feel threatened or unsure about their safety.

Ola waves off its cancellation charges if the driver does not show up within 5 minutes of the estimated arrival time, the companies had earlier stated.
