Police constable arrested for partnering with thieves

Bengaluru: A police constable was arrested for his alleged alliance with habitual offenders and persons accused in house breaking theft (HBT) cases in the city.

The police arrested constable Yellappa, who has been transferred to Devanahalli Police Station recently . Earlier, he was attached to Banashankari Police Station in Bengaluru.

According to the police, the constable was allegedly involved in three theft cases in Chandra Layout, Chikkajala and Jnana Bharati police limits. He would allegedly inform fellow thieves about vacant houses and people living alone.

He would help them in carrying out the thefts and take a share of the loot in return. Following a theft case, the Jnana Bharati police had arrested an accused who revealed the role of Yellappa in the thefts during an interrogation.

The police then arrested Yellappa following an inquiry against him. The Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda said that the arrested constable has been handed over to judicial custody on Tuesday
