New Delhi/Washinton: On Wednesday, Dabur India, a consumer goods company, announced that three of its foreign subsidiaries are facing legal action in the United States and Canada.
The lawsuits allege that products from these subsidiaries have been linked to instances of ovarian and uterine cancer, along with other health issues.
Dabur India's subsidiaries, including Namaste Laboratories, Dermoviva Skin Essentials, and Dabur International, have been named as defendants in approximately 5,400 cases.
According to the company's statement in an exchange filing, these federal cases have been consolidated into a multi-district litigation before a district court in Illinois, USA.
The dispute revolves around allegations that certain hair relaxer products produced by Dabur India contain chemicals that are purportedly responsible for causing cancer and other health problems among their consumers.
