Bengaluru: A man died on the spot while seven others were injured in a head-on collision between two cars on Ballari Road in the city on Sunday morning.

It was revealed that one of the cars, a Hyundai 120, was driven by a youth, identified as Muhid, along with three of his friends. The traffic police said that all the youths were in the age group of 20-25 years.

It was learnt that the youths were returning to Bengaluru from a party at Devanahalli. The incident took place around 8:15 am after Muhid, who was overspeeding, allegedly lost control of the wheels and crashed into a divider, causing the vehicle to jump over and head-on collide with another car, a Fiat Punto, on the other lane.

Narendra Babu, 52, who was driving the Fiat Punto, was travelling along with his family including his wife, daughter and a relative, to Nandi Hills. All of them suffered injuries and are currently under treatment, the police said.

Muhid's friend died on the spot while the other two are being treated, he added. The mishap caused a huge traffic jam on the busy road for about an hour before the jurisdictional traffic police cleared the damaged cars and shifted the victims to a hospital.

An FIR has been filed against Muhid under relevant sections of IPC for rash and negligent driving and a probe is on.
