Dental sector problems need solving: Minto Hospital director

Bengaluru: Director of Medical Education and Director of Minto Hospital Dr BL Sujatha Rathod called upon the State government to call a meeting of stakeholders to figure out a solution to the problems of the dental sector.
She added that issues in question were unfilled seats in dental colleges, unemployment among dental graduates and a lack of interest in research in the field.
Rathod made the remarks in the annual convocation of the Bangalore Institute Of Dental Sciences and Hospital in Bengaluru on Saturday.
“We and the consortium of dental colleges should sit and decide on why we have a huge level of unemployment among the dental graduates. A lot of seats get wasted, which should not happen because our doctor to patient ratio is still not reached. There are a lot of gray areas which should be identified and resolved,” Rathod said.
“We have a huge population of patients. But all our research which we see and go by are all the evidence based from the west. But here, within ourselves, our population being our biggest asset, we should do research on our own patients,” she added.
As many as 61 students (both Undergraduate and Postgraduate) were handed certificates on the occasion. Overall topper Dr Syeda Zaiba was felicitated on the occasion.
