Maldives Prez: Talks to remove Indian troops ‘very successful’

New Delhi, NT Bureau: President-elect Mohamed Muizzu of the Maldives has described his negotiations with the Indian government to withdraw their military forces from the country as "highly successful," according to a report by Bloomberg on Friday, The Maldives is currently host to the only foreign military presence from India, where approximately 70 Indian personnel are stationed to operate radar stations and surveillance aircraft.

Additionally, Indian warships assist in patrolling the Maldives' economic zone.

This holds strategic importance for New Delhi, especially in the context of its geopolitical rivalry with China in the Indian Ocean.
