Chitradurga: The Deputy Director of the Department of Public Instruction (DDPI) has suspended the headmaster of Government Higher Primary School in Jodichikkenahalli, Chitradurga taluk, in the wake of an incident involving an acid splash on a second-grade girl student within the school premises.

The incident took place on Wednesday while students were engaged in toilet cleaning duties, resulting in the girl sustaining injuries to her back.

She is currently receiving treatment at Chitradurga District Government Hospital. Residents lodged a formal complaint with the Rural Police, accusing the school's headmaster, Rangaswamy, of being responsible for the acid attack on the girl.

In response, the Rural Police initiated an FIR against the headmaster, leading to his suspension by the DDPI. However, the Block Education Officer (BEO) of Chitradurga, Nagabhushan, has refuted the allegations made by locals.

He contends that the girl's injury was accidental and that the headmaster is wrongly accused of deliberately harming the child.
