Bengaluru: In another shocking incident, a final-year computer science student jumped to his death in the wee hours of Saturday at PES University's Electronic City campus.
The deceased, identified as Surya M Achar, jumped from the fifth floor of the college building, according to the police. A police official from the Parappana Agrahara Police Station in Electronic City said that the investigation is ongoing, and no suspects have been identified.
Speaking to social activist Dushyant Dubey or St. Broseph alleged that the death conceals a 'mysterious story.'
Dubey, who brought this issue to light on X (formerly known as Twitter), explained that the hostelite didn't have any significant problems.
"He excelled in co-curricular activities and sports. He faced no academic issues," he added.
However, before taking his life, Surya left all WhatsApp groups and deactivated all of his social media accounts. Considering the death of Aditya Prabhu on July 17, Dubey also highlighted the suspicious nature of this incident.
"This is the second such occurrence in less than four months. The university failed to take any measures, despite Aditya Prabhu's case receiving significant media attention. Dubey criticised the continuous ignorance and negligence of mental health.
"Professors who were named in the charge sheet of Aditya Prabhu's case continue to work there. It is not surprising to see the university's lack of acknowledgement of the deaths and failure to provide a platform for students to discuss their issues," he alleged.
According to Dubey, the university might not have been of any assistance during Surya's time of distress, as students resorted to ending their lives on campus.
"We have lost two promising students due to the authorities' addressing critical mental health issues," he claims.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), St. Broseph has called on the ministers to take immediate action against the university, which allegedly drives students to their breaking point.
The father of the deceased has filed a complaint with the Parappana Agrahara Police Station.
