IIM-B' showcases 'spectacular success'

Bengaluru: IIMB's Golden Jubilee Foundation Week celebrations was recently inaugurated by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, on October 26.

The event, held at IIMB's Bannerghatta Road campus, was attended by Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty, Chairperson of the Board of Governors at IIM Bangalore, Prof. Rishikesha T Krishnan, Director of IIM Bangalore, deans, faculty, students, and staff of the institute.

The grand Foundation Week will feature a host of events and will conclude on October 29.

The celebrations on October 28 included a variety of activities led by the institute's students, alumni, and staff, including scholarship and achievement awards, the felicitation of former employees, Staff Recreation Club (SRC) prize distribution, cultural programmes, quizzes, alumni-led events, and more.

On this occasion, American economist Professor Rebecca Henderson of Harvard Business School delivered the Foundation Day Lecture on 'Reimagining Capitalism in a World on Fire.'

She spoke about the problems and physical risks inherent in climate change and its impact on society and the economy. IIMB Director Prof. Rishikesha T Krishnan discussed the progress of academic programmes, including reservations for economically weaker sections that began a few years ago.

He said, "Over the years, we have witnessed an increase in doctoral fellowship programs, a unique initiative that brings greater diversity to academia. We have seen more graduates enrolling in high-quality PhD programs.

"The institute is committed to scaling up and moving forward. We are focusing on the entrepreneurship and incubation center, aiming to enhance its capacity. We have already impacted over 1000 entrepreneurs, compared to 50 in 2017.

"This is a significant milestone. We also have a strong presence in women's entrepreneurship programmes, especially for disadvantaged communities, funded by the government of Karnataka."

Other highlights included 'Suvarna Sangeet,' a grand musical presentation by IIMB's PGP alumna and noted classical vocalist Manasi Prasad and her troupe.

The concluding day will feature a Hindi play titled 'Gagan Damama Bajyo,' presented by the troupe 'TheatreNama' on October 29. The play, written by actor-playwright-poet Piyush Mishra, is directed by Aashish Rana."
