Tel Aviv/Gaza: Israeli forces and tanks launched a military operation in Gaza's main northern city on Monday, following the commencement of a significant ground offensive in the Palestinian enclave three days earlier.
This escalation has led to increased international calls for the protection of civilians in the area, as per a Reuters report.
The Israeli military said that it had targeted more than 600 militant sites during these recent operations in the Gaza Strip.
As the conflict enters its fourth week, Palestinian civilians are facing severe shortages of essential supplies such as fuel, food, and clean water.
Militant groups claim to have successfully repelled an Israeli tank incursion from the east of Gaza City and are engaged in border clashes with Israeli forces.
The Islamic Jihad militant group, which is aligned with Gaza's ruling Hamas, emphasized their commitment to continuing the fight and expressed that a ceasefire is not currently under consideration.
The Israeli military confirmed the elimination of four high-ranking Hamas members and stated that "IDF troops killed dozens of terrorists who barricaded themselves in buildings and tunnels, and attempted to attack the troops" in their latest update.
On Monday, Hamas has released a video of captives demanding prisoner swap and criticising government for failing to protect people during Hamas’s October 7 attack. Israel called it “psychological propaganda”.
Palestinians in Gaza City reported receiving threats by the Israeli army over the phone telling them to evacuate as bombing continues and there are no safe routes.
Death toll crosses 8,300, mostly children, women The Palestinian death toll from Israeli bombardment in the Gaza Strip has climbed to 8,306, the Health Ministry in the blockaded enclave said on Monday.
Over 1,000 children remain missing in Gaza and may be under the rubble.
“The fatalities include 3,457 children and 2,136 women, while more than 21,048 people were injured,” ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra told a news conference in Gaza City.
He said 25 hospitals were forced out of service and 25 ambulances were targeted in Israeli airstrikes in Gaza. “The occupation deliberately seeks to paralyze ambulance service,” the spokesman said.
Negotiations for captives' release 'ongoing', Israelis impeding progress: Qatar
According to a Qatari official, indirect negotiations brokered by Doha for the release of captives seized by Hamas were "ongoing", but the intended ground invasion by "Israel" is impeding the process, as reported by Financial Times.
"They are still talking. They are listening," a source knowledgeable on the talks said, adding: "Of course, it’s not the same pace as it was on Thursday and Friday, but the talks haven’t stopped."
However, the source warned that there were no longer signs of an encroaching breakthrough after three sources briefed on the negotiations claimed last week that negotiators were positive of being on the brink of an agreement.
Mob storms Russian airport in search of Israelis Video footage on social media showed an angry crowd running through the airport in Makhachkala seeking people arriving on a flight from Tel Aviv. Some of the crowd ran on to the runway and surrounded aircraft there.
Russia's aviation agency Rosaviatsia said security forces later brought the situation under control.
Video posted on social media showed a mob rampaging through the terminal, asking staff where the "Jews" were.
