KSRTC raises employee family welfare relief to Rs 10 lakhs

Bengaluru: In a landmark move, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has set a precedent among State Transport Undertakings in India by increasing the relief amount for its Employees' Family Welfare Scheme.
This compassionate initiative will bring relief and solace to the families of KSRTC employees when they need it. Under this scheme, the relief amount has been raised from Rs.3 lakhs to Rs.10 lakhs.
This increase is in addition to the existing provision of a Rs.1 crore accident relief compensation for employees who lose their lives, whether on or off duty.
Compensation has already been granted in seven cases. Employee deaths are not limited to accidents but also result from illnesses such as cancer, stroke, heart attack, kidney failure, and more.
Annually, over 100 employees lose their lives due to these health-related issues, leaving their families in financial straits. To alleviate this burden, KSRTC has chosen to raise this relief amount.
As part of this revised scheme, employees, who currently contribute Rs.100 per month, will now increase their monthly contribution to Rs.200 and the corporation will double its contribution on behalf of each employee from Rs.50 to Rs.100.
This initiative will take effect from November 1 and will be applicable to incidents of employee deaths occurring thereafter.
