Bengaluru: The Upparpet police arrested four people, including a car driver, in connection with the theft of Rs 1 crore in cash from a car belonging to an interstate areca trader on October 20.
The accused were identified as Swami, 34, a native of Chitradurga and his friends Anupama, 38, and Pawan, 30. Another person, identified as Karthik was arrested later.
It was learnt that a trader, HS Umesh, had come to Bengaluru from Chitradurga in connection with areca purchases in different districts and was carrying the cash in his car.
It is suspected that the theft occurred when he had parked his car in front of a hotel in Gandhinagar before going out for lunch. It is said that the cash was kept in a blue bag in the car.
Later on, Umesh had made stops at Chandra Layout and Dabaspet. Around 7.45 pm that day, when he reached his shop at Bheemasandra in Chitradurga, he realised that the cash had been stolen. Police probe revealed that Umesh had stopped at two places in the city.
He had lunch near Dabaspet before meeting his daughter in Chandra Layout. He had parked his car at both the places. Based on a complaint from Umesh, the Upparpet police had registered an FIR and took up investigation.
