Dist in-charges asked to visit taluks under them, submit report

Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday asked district in-charge ministers to visit every taluk headquarters in their relevant district to ensure that the drought relief measures have been implemented.

The CM also asked them to submit a report regarding the same by November 15. Tankers had been pressed into service to ensure the drinking water needs of the commoners had been met.

Other drought relief measures included releasing of water from certain reservoirs and emergency power supply for pump sets of farmers.

“Hence, district in-charge ministers are required to visit all taluks under them and in the next two weeks. You are expected to take stock of issues such as drinking water, fodder, jobs, crop loss and the like and gather necessary information,” Siddaramaiah said, adding that the ministers were also expected to consult local MLAs.

He said that ministers ought to inform the news media about the same as well.

“You are requested to submit the report by 15-11- 2023,” he added.

Siddaramaiah pointed out that 216 of the 236 taluks in the state had been declared as drought hit. The State government had disclosed that crops on 39,74,741 hectares of land had been destroyed in 195 taluks where the drought had been initially declared.

Siddaramaiah has requested Rs 17,901 crores in compensation for crop loss from the Union government.
