Bengaluru: J D(S) state president HD Kumaraswamy on Saturday said that his party leaders would undertake a state-wide tour to take stock of the drought.

Assembly Speaker UT Khader had announced that the winter session would likely get underway in Belagavi’s Suvarna Vidhana Soudha on December 4.

Kumaraswamy said that the tour was supposed to give confidence to farmers who had been reeling under drought and power cuts caused by dearth of water in reservoirs.

Ally BJP had declared that they would undertake a similar yatra from November 3 to 10. JD(S) on the other hand has formed 31 teams in as many districts who have been asked to study the drought situation in each district and submit a report by November 18.

Kumaraswamy had disclosed that the Mandya team would include former MLA CS Puttaraju and MLA HT Manju, among others. The Mysuru team would include Chamundeshwari MLA GT Deve Gowda.

The Hassan team would comprise of Kumaraswamy’s brother HD Revanna and his sons Prajwal and Suraj, besides Hassan MLA HP Swaroop. The Chikkamagaluru team would include former MLA YSV Datta.

Disclosing the information at the party office, Kumaraswamy blamed Chief Minister Siddarmaiah for passing the buck to the Union government over drought.
