Activists bring out "Watermelons" to show support for Palestine
NT Correspondent
Bengaluru: Cubbon Park police detained and later released a few activists in the city who took part in a march calling for a halt to Israel's bombardment of Gaza on Sunday.
The activists were seen holding placards of watermelons which, according to the sympathisers symbolised the colours in the flag of Palestine.
However the walk which began from the Brigade Road to the end of Church street took a bitter turn at Airlines Hotel on Lavelle road after a person approached one of the groups and threw offensive slurs at them.
While some activists reacted to his remarks, most of them ignored him. While the person who objected to the demonstration claimed that the picture of watermelon carried by the activists symbolises all the colours shown in the Palestinian flag, a few activists argued that they were protesting against atrocities on Palestinian civilians.
However the confrontation caused a chaos forcing the police to intervene and asked the group to disperse. A few activists were detained and were later released with a warning not to involve in such activities.
