Civil society group condemns India’s UNGA abstention

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: 'Bengaluru for Justice and Peace', a civil society group, strongly criticized India's decision to abstain from voting on a United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) resolution calling for an "immediate, sustainable, and durable humanitarian truce" amid the ongoing IsraeliPalestinian conflict.

The organization raised concerns about the state government's actions, accusing them of suppressing voices in solidarity with the Palestinian cause, despite India's historical support for it.

In particular, Bengaluru for Justice and Peace censured the Karnataka police for their crackdown on protests and their efforts to limit public expressions of support for the Palestinian people.

The organization also expressed disappointment with the Congress party, noting that although senior leaders have voiced support for Palestine, the Karnataka police have taken action against peaceful protesters
