NIA raids: Eight Bangladeshi nationals detained for illegal stay

Bengaluru: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday carried out raids in the city and detained eight Bangladeshi nationals on suspicion of living here illegally by forging their documents.

According to sources from Bengaluru police, the raids were conducted in connection with certain human trafficking cases registered by the NIA earlier.

The NIA teams conducted simultaneous raids in 15 locations in Bengaluru including Soladevanahalli, KR Puram and Bellandur localities along with the city outskirts.

The sources added that during the early morning raids, the officers found at least eight Bangladeshis who had been staying in the country for a long time after sneaking in through the borders.

An official statement is yet to be made in this regard and more details are yet to emerge. Similar raids are being conducted in Tripura, Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Haryana, Puducherry, Rajasthan and Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.
