Mysuru mayor: Use water judiciously
Mysuru, NT Bureau: Mayor M Shivakumar on Wednesday appealed to citizens to judiciously use water as the country is witnessing a depletion of ground water levels, drought and decline in rainfall.
He was speaking after inaugurating Jal Deepavali - "Women for Water, Water for Women Campaign"campaign organized for women self help group members under Amruth 2.0 scheme by the Department of Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM at Mysuru City Corporation in the city.
Though Mysuru City Corporation is pumping more than its needed drinking water, it is still facing complaints of drinking water shortage from residents of several areas due to the faulty management and distribution network.
MCC is pumping daily around 310 mld liters of water against 270 mld liters of water it needs. If residents in all households use available water judiciously, MCC can provide drinking water round the clock not only in its ward limits but also in the city outskirts, he said.
The MCC commissioner Ashad –Ur- Rehaman Sharief wanted residents to avoid wasting water during cooking, bathing and washing. Water expert Prof Hemachandra Pannedoddi who also spoke said that water security has become the need of the hour as water is running out.
People can save 4800 litres of water in a year by avoiding wasting 25 drops in a minute.
