Kumaraswamy demands GO on pump sets be withdrawn

Bengaluru: J D(S) state president HD Kumaraswamy on Thursday demanded that a Government Order (GO) on the regularization of irrigation pump sets be withdrawn; adding that failure to do so would result in protests by his party.

The Opposition leader termed the GO anti-farmer, claiming that it would effectively remove the subsidies that benefited agriculturalists earlier.

“The government should immediately withdraw this order. Farmers should be able to avail of the same subsidies as before. If the order is not rolled back, the JD(S) will launch a movement against the same inside the House and outside of it,” Kumaraswamy said.

The former chief minister alleged that the Congress had wooed the farmers in the lead up to the election and had failed to protect their interests once it came to power.
