Purple Line to be extended up to Bidadi

Ramanagara / Bengaluru: Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister DK Shivakumar on Friday said that Namma Metro’s Purple Line being extended to Bidadi town in Ramanagara district is a possibility.
He added that he had asked officials of the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) to undertake a survey and submit a Detailed Project Report (DPR) on the issue.
The Purple Line currently runs from Baiyyappanahalli in the eastern extremities of the city to Challaghatta on Mysore Road to the far west of Bengaluru.
The location is not too far away from Kumbalgodu, which is located withinBengaluru Urban district but is on the border with Ramanagara district and Bidadi is the first town one encounters on the way.
Shivakumar, who is the MLA of Kanakapura, which is in Ramanagara district, made the comments to mediapersons after the inauguration of the Toyota Technical Training Institute (TTTI) in Bidadi town in Ramanagara on Friday.
“A survey is being conducted to extend Namma Metro up to Bidadi. I have ordered that a DPR be prepared in this regard. It has also been ordered that the Bidadi Development Authority would be abolished and a Greater Bengaluru Development Corporation would take its place,” he said.
The Deputy CM has been open about his plans to rename Ramanagara district Bengaluru South district. However, he insisted that Ramanagara town will remain the district headquarters.
