Bengaluru: In a swift action, the Kalasipalya police arrested a man for allegedly slitting the throat of his friend and setting fire to his body before fleeing from the spot.

A few shopkeepers on Sunday morning noticed a half burnt gunny bag lying in the garbage and alerted the jurisdictional police.

Inspecting the bag, the police found a half burnt body of a man stuffed inside the gunny bag.

Later in the day, the deceased was identified as Sudharan, 28, a native of Tamil Nadu. It was revealed that the accused, Vijay Kumar, and Sudharan were both friends and used to work as labourers at the vegetable market of Kalasipalya for several months.

The police said that an argument broke out between the duo late on Saturday night over drinking alcohol. When Sudharan refused to give him money to buy alcohol, an enraged Kumar allegedly slit his throat with a blade which he used to cut open the sacks.

However, afraid of being caught and not knowing what to do with the body, the accused stuffed the body into a gunny bag and set it on fire before fleeing, the police added.

The police identified the accused and arrested him. Investigation into the case is underway
