
Lion dies at Bannerghatta park

Bengaluru: A 13-year-old lion has died in the Bannerghatta Biological Park (BBP) premises, it has been revealed. Park officials disclosed that the lion Rama died of multiple organ failure.
It is to be noted that eight to 10-year-old lions are considered old in the wild. Lions live up to 16 years in the wild but survive for 30 years in captivity.
BBP informed that Rama died in the early morning hours on Thursday. He was born on February 4, 2010 to lion Ganesha and lioness Anu. Rama sired 12 cubs in his lifetime.
The lion had been ill since Wednesday morning and was treated for the same. By 7 pm on the same day, the lion’s condition had deteriorated further and did not respond to the treatment.
Post mortem of the lion’s body revealed multiple organ failure and prima facie, it is suspected to be the cause of death. The visceral samples were collected and sent to the Institute of Animal Health and Veterinary Biologicals (IAH&VB) Lab for further examination.
