Mysuru: The construction of an international cricket stadium is expected to soon become a reality in Mysuru.

After the district administration identified 26.3 acres of land near Huyilalu village in Yelwal hobli in Mysuru taluk, the regional commissioner of Mysuru has submitted a proposal to the state government to sanction the required land for stadium construction.

The stadium will be set up with financial support of Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA). As Mysuru is the home district of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah who is also an avid cricket fan, cricket lovers of the city had looked up to the CM to sanction the required land for the purpose.

Earlier, the district administration had identified 19 to 20 acres of land near Hanchya- Sathagalli.

Mysuru Urban Development Authority has also set aside this land for the purpose which was sought by KSCA six years ago, but the proposal for construction of an international cricket stadium was dropped as underground drainage lines and a lake area would be near the proposed stadium.

Mysuru MP Pratap Simha and other elected representatives of the region have also put in a lot of effort to identify the alternate land. Finally, the district administration identified land for the purpose at Huyilalu village.

The district administration has identified a total of 26.31 acres of land under two different survey numbers with 19 acres which falls under survey number 312 and another 7.31acres in survey number 313 in the village.

The regional commissioner of Mysuru division has written a letter to the principal secretary of the revenue department to sanction the land for construction of the stadium.

The land identified for the purpose at Huyilalu village falls within nine kilometers of Mysuru city. As the land has better road connectivity, the regional commissioner has written to the state government with all the revenue records.

The regional commissioner also mentioned that each acre costs around Rs 30 lakh. The previous state government had sanctioned 23.25 acres of land to KSCA at Kabaka village in Dakshina Kannada district on 30 years lease.

Speaking to News Trail, Mysore-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha said the administration has identified this land for KSCA after searching for the last two years.
