Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday promised that he would issue a circular confirming the inclusion of Parivar sect of the Nayaka community in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) list.
He said that some “confusion” had prevailed due to the sect being included in the Other Backward Classes (OBC) list, adding that he would remove them from it and include them in the ST list instead.
Siddaramaiah said that the problem could be solved by merely including the word ‘Parivar’ in the ST list. The CM was responding to an official request by Congress MLA from HD kote Anil Chikkamadu.
There had been a lot of lobbying by Parivar and Talwar communities who claim to be sects associated with the Nayaka tribe. Siddaramaiah said that in Old Mysuru the word Parivar was in fact synonymous.
“In Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, Kodagu, Mandya and Hassan districts, Parivar is an alternative term for the Nayaka community. Back in 1975, the Havanur Commission had also specified. In 2020, the Government of India had also included Parivar and Talwar in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) list,” he said.
“A circular will be issued in this regard so that the confusion is cleared,” he added. The CM also ordered that 58 cases pertaining to applying of “fake caste certificates” against the relevant communities be withdrawn.
