Go ahead with road widening, BJP MP tells Shivakumar

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: BJP Rajya Sabha MP from Karnataka Lahar Singh Siroya on Wednesday wrote to the Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister DK Shivakumar, demanding that the State government go ahead with the plan to widen the roads between two key stretches.

It was originally the plan of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to widen the busy stretches between Mekhri Circle and Cantonment Railway Station on the one hand and the circle to Hebbal on the other hand.

The issue was that many citybased activists had opposed the chopping off of at least 58 trees in order to widen the road from the Mekhri Circle to Cauvery Theatre Junction stretch alone.

The forest department and the Supreme Court had approved of the road widening projects. The previous BJP State government had gone ahead with the exercise by chopping off trees last December.

However, the present Congress government has been less forthcoming on the issue. “The state government has yet to progress with the implementation of this muchneeded solution,
