Bengaluru: Chair man of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) Priyank Kanoongo was booked by the police for comparing an orphanage in the city with "Taliban life."
The action was taken following a complaint filed by Ashraf Khan, the secretary of Darul Uloom Sayideeya Yateem Khana in Kaval Byrasandra in Bengaluru.
Kanoongo, on Sunday, had shared a video post on X, formerly Twitter, in which he alleged to have paid a surprise visit to the orphanage and claimed to have found that it was being run illegally and the children there lacked basic facilities and had no option for entertainment.
According to Kanoongo, the children are made to wake up at 3:30 am to go to the madrassa and sleep in the afternoon.
They train them to read the Quran from evening to night with short breaks for namaz during the day, and do not have avenues for entertainment or television.
