Bengaluru: In a harrowing case that shook Shakambari Nagar in Banashankari, Abhishek Chetan, aged 44, has been convicted and sentenced to nine years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of 42 thousand rupees by the 57th Additional City Civil and Sessions Court.

The sentencing, ordered by Judge T. Govindaiah, came in connection with the grievous assault on his father, SS Paramesh, where Abhishek gruesomely gouged out his father's eyes.

The heinous incident, stemming from a property dispute, unfolded on August 29, 2018. Abhishek's aggression erupted as the property wasn't transferred into his name.

The brutality of the assault led to charges including fatal assault, attempt to murder, breach of trust regarding property, breach of peace, and property damage.

The court ruled that 40,000 rupees from the fine should be allocated to SS Paramesh, the victim of the appalling attack. Failure to pay the fine would result in an additional year of rigorous imprisonment.

Initially absconding after being out on bail, Abhishek was arrested and brought before the court, which continued the trial despite his absence. The evidence presented during the trial substantiated the assault, leading to his arrest and imprisonment.

The government prosecutor, K.S. Veena, represented the police during the proceedings, emphasizing the gravity of the crime and the need for appropriate legal action.

The court's decision underscores the severity of the crime committed by Abhishek, bringing a measure of justice to the victim and shedding light on the consequences of such violent and malicious actions.
