Ibrahim backs caste census in defiance of JD(S) stand
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: Former JD(S) state president CM Ibrahim has come out and backed the caste census otherwise known as the Kantharaju Commission report and demanded that the State government accept it.
It is to be noted that this is in stark contrast to the stand of the present JD(S) state president HD Kumaraswamy who has opposed the socio-economic and educational survey, claiming it would "divide society”.
“As far as the (caste) census is concerned, it is my fervent request to the government that they remain firm. Census will neither benefit nor harm Muslims. The fight is between them, backward and forward (castes). The census will tell what share in the population different communities have. Then why are politicians afraid of it? There is no need to fear it?” he said, claiming that Muslims would be found to be the most populous community if the census were to be revealed.
Ibrahim also disclosed that he had called a meeting of his supporters within the JD(S) on December 10. He also denied that Congress had reached out to him, asking him to join the Grand Old Party.
