Friends returning after Kambala, meet with accident

Bengaluru: Two persons were killed and three seriously injured when the car in which they were travelling back to Mangaluru after partaking in the Bengaluru Kambala crashed into a truck in the early hours of Sunday, near Kottagere Hobali of Chiganipalya village on the State Highway 33.

The deceased are identified as Kishan Shetty (20), a native of Mooduperara, Bajpe in Mangaluru and Philip Marie Lobo (32), resident of Bhattara Thota, Ammunje village in Bantwal taluk.

Ammunje residents Nitish Bhandari, Preeti Lobo and Harish Shetty are seriously injured and are being treated at the Adichunchanagiri Hospital.

According to the police, the deceased were returning to Mangaluru after watching Kambala in Bengaluru when the driver allegedly lost control of the wheel around 1:30 am and crashed into a borewell truck that was going towards Tumkur from Kunigal on the Highway.

It is said that the car driver had lost his way. The car which was supposed to go to Mangaluru from Nelamangala via Kunigal took the wrong route and went towards Tumkur.

Later while driving from Kunigal to Mangaluru via the Hebbur route, the car collided with the lorry. It was learnt that Philip Lobo and Preeti Lobo were married only eight months ago.

The deceased, Kishan Shetty, was a relative of Nitish Bhandari and had gone to Bengaluru with his Bantwal friends to watch Kambala. Kunigal police said that the injured are being treated in the intensive care unit.

Due to the severity of the incident, the car is completely damaged. The Kunigal police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
