Fake FB account of education minister surfaces as CEN police track miscreant
NT Correspondent
Bengaluru: Shocked to find a fake Facebook page created in his name to spread misinformation about the ministers and his party, state minister for Primary and Secondary Education, Madhu Bangarappa has filed a complaint with the Cyber, Economic and Narcotics (CEN) police in the city regarding the matter.
The Facebook group has a display picture of the minister and about 58,000 followers. The profile of the user name says ‘Kundapura Virat’ and a post says, "Yeh hai Acche Din. Those who looted the country and were questioning where are the Acche Din, see this and enjoy," with a picture of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi regarding the National Herald case.
Another posts says, “Those who were screaming 'Chowkidar Chor Hai' are themselves the biggest chors", referring to the ED seizure of properties worth Rs 751 crore in the National Herald case, the complaint said.
Also, there were posts against Congress leaders and criticising the Congress guarantee schemes. This was done to make it look like the minister himself was poking fun at the schemes and criticising the party, in order to bring him a bad name, the complaint said and sought action against those responsible.
Social media has proved to be of immense importance in allowing it to stay connected with its audience. However there are nearly an infinite number of instances where these platforms are being misused for spreading misinformation.
The Bengaluru CEN police have registered a case under the IT Act and further investigation is on to track and nab the miscreant.
