Mock drill on mob operation organised at CAR HQ

Bengaluru: The City police conducted a comprehensive mock drill at the City Armed Reserve (CAR) headquarters here on Monday.

The mesmerising demonstration of various techniques used by the personnel equipped with body protector, shield and a lathi, enthralled the motorists riding on the Balagangadharanatha Flyover.

The teams were tested on their preparedness to deal with emergency situations. According to a CAR official, the demonstration began with the formation of personnel with an action plan towards crowd direction.

The exercise was aimed to make the police force well-prepared to reinforce their ability to handle various emergency situations in the state. With over 200 personnel and several senior officials participating in the exercise, the mock drill served as a valuable training opportunity.

The scientific operation displayed maturity of personnel in handling emergencies. The trained personnel presented a demo with ease.

While "lathi-charge" has remained one of the most brutal and sensitive issues for Indians since the bygone days of the Indian National Movement, both the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Code for Criminal Procedure (CrPC) maintain that the police can use "lathi-charge" to quell the masses in very selective and precise turn of events.

Even there, the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPRD) has mentioned that the aim of a "lathi-charge" must only be to "scatter" the crowd and NOT assault them.
