Child-lifting gang arrested by CCB

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: After busting a sex-determination racket recently, the Central Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths nabbed a gang involved in child-lifting at Rajarajeshwari Nagar on Monday.

According to sources, the gang included three women. Following the arrest, police claimed to have rescued a 20-day-old baby boy from the clutches of the gang.

The arrested persons were identified as Kannan Ramaswamy, Murugeshwari, Hemalatha and Sharanya, all natives of Tamil Nadu. The police said that the accused persons had come in a red coloured Swift car to sell the baby near a temple in RR Nagar.

However the CCB police, acting on a tip off, caught them red-handed while they were about to sell the baby.

The accused have been arrested and are being grilled by the police to find out from where they lifted the baby, who they were planning to sell for a hefty amount when they were caught.

The police said that the accused revealed that one Mahalakshmi had taken money for the baby. The jurisdictional police registered a case and a probe is on, however, more details are yet to emerge regarding the incident.
