Gay man robbed, assaulted by person he met on 'Grindr' app

Bengaluru: A 29-year-old man seeking gay partners on an online dating app, fell into a trap and was allegedly assaulted and robbed by the miscreants.

A case has been registered regarding the incident at the Adugodi Police station. According to the FIR, the victim met the accused, who had mentioned his name as Farhan on the gay dating app ‘Grindr’.

On November 24, the victim invited him to his house following which the accused visited the victim's house.

The victim alleged that after speaking to him for sometime, the accused went to use the washroom. However five men armed with sticks allegedly barged into his house and assaulted the victim demanding money to be transferred to their UPI app.

When the victim refused, the accused allegedly snatched his mobile phone and stole two wrist watches, a speaker and liquor bottles from his house before fleeing with the gang.

A case was booked under IPC section 397 (at the time of committing robbery or dacoity, the offender uses any deadly weapon, or causes grievous hurt to any person).

An effort is on to track the accused and his accomplices. There are already a huge number of complaints reported in connection with the 'Grindr' mobile application across the country.
