Bengaluru: Chief Commissioner of BBMP Tushar Giri Nath has issued a decisive directive to address encroachments on significant waterways within palike’s jurisdiction.

Emphasising the urgency during a meeting focused on the clearance operation of major water canals, the commissioner instructed officials to address marked encroachments identified by land surveyors.

The directive highlights the immediate need to clear encroachments on the royal canal, following the Tehsildar's instructions.

A citywide operation targeting drainage encroachments across all eight zones has been mandated, with security measures, including police assistance, during the eviction process.

Land surveyors are tasked with preparing accurate maps aligned with Tehsildar-issued orders, ensuring adherence to village maps and survey records.

Encroachments within the zones will be addressed, with provisions for necessary canal construction where required. A concerted effort has been initiated to expedite court cases in line with High Court directives.

The Corporation has submitted a comprehensive report to the Honorable High Court outlining the extensive operation to clear water canals and lakes' encroachments in the city.

Currently, 2,247 encroachments have been successfully cleared, while 900 remain slated for eviction, with 130 cases under litigation.
