Rs 50 lakh relief approved for slain Captain’s family

Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday officially approved compensation of Rs 50 lakh for the family of Captain MV Pranjal, who was killed in the line of duty in Rajouri district in Jammu on November 22.

Five Indian soldiers had been killed as a result of the shoot-out. Moreover, two militants associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba were also killed in the same incident.

Announcing the ex-gratia on the micro-blogging site X (previously Twitter), Siddaramaiah said that Pranjal’s sacrifice could not be compensated for but the compensation would prove to be a gesture so as to communicate that the State government “stood by” Pranjal’s grieving family.

The revelation came on a day when the CM appeared to forget the name of the slain Captain during media availability. BJP leaders like Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya had pulled up Siddaramaiah for the same.
