18 lakes in city added to ‘uninhabitable for aquatic life’ list
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: Bengaluru, home to over 200 lakes, finds itself in a predicament, as the freshwater sources are succumbing to chemicals and industrial wastes.
This year, 18 lakes, namely Kothanur lake, Ibblur lake, Madiwala lake, Kundalahalli lake, Doddakallasandhra lake, Somasundarapalya lake, Bhattarahalli lake, Ullal lake, Sankey lake and Chelekere were declared unfit for aquatic life.
Despite promises from the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike, (BBMP), the responsibility to protect these lakes is not seen.
Reportedly, the Chunchughatta lake in JP Nagar has seen a drastic change in its habitats. Lake activists across the city have manifested a decentralised approach in rejuvenating lakes.
