Hi-tech moves: K'taka govt to switch to digital mode for Cabinet meetings?
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: In a move to make the bureaucracy and the political establishment tech-savvy, the Karnataka government is on the cusp of going digital while holding cabinet meetings.
The office of the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (e-Governance) has called for proposals to supply essential IT hardware for the 'e-cabinet system.'
This will eliminate the need for printing documents like cabinet notes and minutes of such meetings. This move is in tune with the system adopted by the governments of Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura.
The Chandrababu Naidu-led Andhra Pradesh government was the first in the country to hold paperless meetings in 2014. Officials from the e-Governance department have reportedly confirmed that the state government plans to switch to a paperless eCabinet application.
This system will see agendas being sent online to the cabinet for deliberation, said sources.
These agendas will show up on the minister's laptop and the secretaries will receive alerts when the agendas are discussed. Recently, the BBMP had also announced the digitisation of old property records.
The civic body has called for proposals to scan and digitise property registers (both A and B registers), after the Karnataka High court issued a directive in October.
