Transport Dept to implement smart enforcement system to tackle traffic woes
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: Bengaluru grapples with traffic congestion, which has now become a constant headache for the government. Despite prior attempts with traffic sensor cameras on major roads, the chaos persists.
In response to this issue, the state transport department in Bengaluru has devised a smart enforcement scheme to permanently alleviate traffic congestion.
The Government of India's IT-driven smart enforcement system, aimed at regulating transport and logistics costs, is now being implemented in Karnataka.
The state transport department aims to complete the smart enforcement system installation on 20 major Bengaluru roads by the end of March 2024.
This system, designed to prevent accidents, identify tax-evading vehicles, monitor permit compliance, and curb encroachments, plans to expand across Karnataka.
To facilitate this, all vehicles must now bear High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP), which the smart enforcement cameras will scan. The system furnishes comprehensive information on vehicles, ensuring rule compliance, real-time location tracking, tax status verification, and license details.
The mandatory HSRP initiative is driven by the susceptibility of traditional plates to tampering, with HSRP plates providing enhanced security features. Previously, traffic sensor cameras installed by the police issued fines for violations.
With the new smart enforcement system complementing these efforts, motorists now face dual penalties for infractions, underscoring the need for heightened caution on the roads.
