During this season of Christmas, as 2021 draws to a close, many are recovering from the tragic happenings of the year. Caught between the pandemic and difficult circumstances are the children of labourers who are fighting the cold, the adversities and uncertainty caused by the pandemic. In this season of giving, Orion Malls tied up with the Association for Promoting Social Action (APSA) on Christmas eve to throw a party for the children of labourers.
The aim was to make an effort to bring the spirit of the holiday season to the children of migrant workers of Bangalore. Forty-five children and five caretakers were part of this initiative at the mall. The children were given the opportunity to visit the mall and spend the day enjoying the festive décor, activities, games and much more. The caretakers and children adhered to strict Covid-19 protocol and those above 18 years of age were allowed to participate only after their double vaccination certificate was seen.
“This initiative is our effort to reach out to underprivileged children and give them an opportunity to brighten their day, and indulge in gaming and other amusements. Our motive is to create a positive experience for these children, who otherwise may not have a chance to visit a mall and engage in activities. It is one of the ways we can give back to society. Being socially responsible is one of Brigade’s core values and we are excited to find new ways to engage socially,” says Sunil Munshi of Orion Malls, Brigade Group.
The children were provided with a welcome drink and light snacks on arrival, after which they engaged in games at the children’s play arena at the mall. They were then served lunch at one of the restaurants in the mall. They were shown around the area that was adorned with Christmas decor. The children got to witness the special Christmas event that was organised by the mall to entertain children and visitors. They were treated to a delicious high tea before being escorted back to their home.
