School officials face action for using students for cleaning pit

Kolar: In a shocing incident, officials of a school here allegedly forced students to clean the soak pit at the school evoking a hue and cry all over Kolar district.

Taking cognizance of the incident, the government has placed under suspension three teachers including the Principal of Morarji Desai residential school, Yaluvahalli in Malur taluk of Kolar district.

It is allegedly a habit for the school authorities to get the premises cleaned on every third Saturday by students.

On Saturday, the authorities reportedly asked some students to get into the soak pit and clean it.

Bharathamma, Principal of the school who noticed it reportedly asked the scavenging staff not to involve students in the process.

Some of the teachers videographed the incident which went viral. Mr Srinivas, Joint Director of the Social Welfare department, Kolar then visited the school and found that the school authorities were in the habit of utilising the students to get the premises cleaned.

Srinivas found school authorities had collected money from the parents of students for construction of a temple in the school premises.

The joint Director found that two teachers including drawing teacher Muniyappa and Maresh work.
