
Union minister seeks SIT to probe 'soak pit' incident

Kolar: Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment A Narayanaswamy has urged the state government to constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the incident at Morarji Desai Residential School here where inmates were forced to take up the task of cleaning the soak pit in the premises Saturday last.
The minister who arrived at the school this morning, spoke to the inmates of the hostel and the authorities about the incident.
He said the state government should take the incident seriously and stern action should be initiated against the persons responsible for it Available evidence clearly indicates that the school authorities had asked the students to get into the soak pit to clean it.
It was shocking that that a teacher allegedly videographed activities of girl inmates of the school, the minister said.
Some teachers have also handed out corporal punishments to students which is condemnable, the minister said. He said proper counselling should be done for the students to instil confidence among young minds.
He expressed the hope that Social Welfare Minister HC Mahadevappa would take suitable steps to conduct an appropriate inquiry into these incidents and send a message to all such residential school across the state.
