Local residents take up vigilante patrols as string of thefts plague Belagavi
Belgavi, NT Bureau: Frustrated by the increasing incidents of theft in certain neighbourhoods in Belgavi, residents have taken matters into their own hands and initiated street patrols armed with sticks and rods.
Over the past three days, 14 theft cases have been reported in various areas including Parijata Nagar, Samrudhi Nagar, Sai Colony, Anand Nagar, Keshav Nagar, Vadgaon, Ambedkar Nagar, Kanakadasa Nagar, and others.
Authorities suspect the involvement of a single thief in these incidents.
The stolen items, including cash and jewellery, amounting to approximately Rs 30 lakh, have proven elusive for the police, who are now confronted with the challenge of apprehending the culprit.
In response, a specialised team has been assembled under the leadership of acting ACP Sadashiv Kattimani, and an operation has been launched to capture the elusive thief.
