Bengaluru: A police inspector attached to Pulikeshi Nagar Police Station was suspended on charges of dereliction of duty.
According to sources, the action was taken on the police inspector, Somashekhar, for his alleged delay in filing a first information report (FIR) and failing to maintain a complaint register.
An order passed by the Karnataka High Court earlier said that failure to register the crime by an officer amounts to serious misconduct and gross dereliction of duty.
"Such gross dereliction of official duty by law enforcement agencies cannot be countenanced," the court had said.
It was revealed that several cases including complaints of robberies were pending for the last six months without an FIR at the police station.
As the matter was brought to the notice of the Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda, he issued an order suspending the police inspector.
An inquiry has been initiated against the police inspector, sources said on Friday.
