Bengaluru: A Deputy Range Forest Officer (DRFO) was arrested for allegedly assisting the gang involved in robbing a businessman in Peenya Police Station limits.

The officers who recently cracked the case by arresting eight members from the gang were shocked to learn that a DRFO from Channagiri, Surendra, and two rowdy sheeters, identified as Nawaz and Shahbaz, were involved in the robbery case.

On December 4, a gang including 11 members barged into the house of Manohar, a businessman in Peenya.

It was revealed that a few members of the gang had disguised themselves as police officers and entered the house.

The gang assaulted Manohar's son Rupesh and held Manohar's wife at knife point demanding valuables to be handed over to them.

The assailants made away with Rs 60 lakh in cash and 700-gram gold along with the DVR of the CCTV from Manohar's house to avoid detection.

The police had filed an FIR in the case and had launched a manhunt for the accused. On December 20, eight men were arrested and now three more accused have been nabbed.

Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda on Friday said that so far, 11 people have been arrested in the case.

"The police have recovered 273 grams of gold along with Rs 23 lakh in cash from them. Multiple teams were formed and 11 men were taken into custody. Among them, two are rowdy-sheeters and one of the accused is the driver of the complainant," the city police chief said.

After taking away the money, the accused left for Nelamangala where they distributed the cash and jewellery among themselves and escaped.

The police arrested the accused from various places like Bengaluru, Chitradurga and other areas, Dayananda added. Investigation is still underway.
