Mysuru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday highlighted the need for robust functioning of all media organizations, newspapers, news channels and journalists for better functioning of democracy.

He was speaking after laying the foundation stone for construction of Patrika Bhavan and Training Centre at a function organized by Mysuru District Journalists Association (MDJA) in the city.

He wanted journalists to work with commitment, passion, professionalism and compassion and have social concern besides becoming the agents of social change.

As inequality still exists in society, the media must highlight such issues to bring transformation besides exposing people indulging in anti -constitutional activities, he said.

The CM appreciated the initiative of MDJA for providing training to budding journalists as many new entrants to the field come from non journalistic backgrounds.

Trained journalists are a must for better functioning of democracy, to uphold democratic values, freedom of speech and expression and to provide objective, fair reporting, he said.

The CM also bemoaned the decline of professionalism in the media nowadays and the glorification of unwanted news and blind beliefs.
