Install Kannada in hoardings by 28 Feb or face legal action: Palike to Shop Owners
NT Correspondent
Bengaluru: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) had announced on Sunday that shops with less than 60 percent of Kannada in their hoardings will be legally dealt with, including a cancellation of their licenses.
Chief Commissioner of BBMP Tushar Girinath had also announced a 1400km road survey of these commercial hoardings and direct shop owners to install Kannada.
“Shops along the roads which fall under the Corporation’s jurisdiction will be surveyed, and will be given notices to comply with the directive by February 28,” Girinath said.
The civic body also listed the consequences of non-compliance to the directives.
The shop owners will be legally dealt with, and their commercial licenses will be revoked. Zonal commissioners will oversee compliance with the directive.
The meeting, which included members from the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, also agreed to implement the directive on malls and large shopping complexes with a timeline of 20 days.
This comes after a group of Pro-Kannada Activists had barged into Chickpet and instructed proprietors and merchants to install Kannada hoardings outside their shop.
